Back to the Bible - Part 3

Recently we have been looking at the need to go “back to the Bible.” There is so much religious confusion around at the moment with so many different denominations teaching different doctrines. What we need to do is go the source of authority in religion, we need to go to the Bible.

In 2 Timothy 3:16-17 we read, “All scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work”. This is a very important passage considering the times in which we live. There are many people who do not believe what is taught in the Bible. Now, perhaps this is to be expected in those who call themselves atheists – but there are leaders of churches who don’t believe the Bible’s teaching. They question the creation, they doubt the virgin birth, they deny Christ’s resurrection! We MUST recognise the Bible as what it is – the word of God.

In the above passage we are told that “all scripture is inspired by God”. It is not the words of men, it is not the doctrine of men, it is God’s words. God is not in the business of telling us interesting “stories”, He has given us His word so that we have the truth.

We are also told in told in the above passage that through the scriptures, “the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work”. What every we need to know concerning God and his service is found in the scriptures. We MUST not go beyond God’s word for if we do we are only paying attention to “deceitful spirits and the doctrines of demons” (1 Timothy 4:1).

In 2 Peter:3 this idea is repeated, “Seeing that His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence”. Once we recognise that He has given us all we need to know, the idea of going beyond His teaching seems absurd. We need to take His word, read it, understand that He is speaking to us and then obey what he asks of us.

We need to go back to the Bible! If we do we will end the religious confusion of today, we will end the divisions and we will ensure that we are serving God in the way that He has asked us to.

We read in Matthew 7:24, “Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them, may be compared to a wise man, who built his house upon the rock.” Also, James 1:22, “But prove yourselves doers of the word, and not merely hearers who delude themselves.”

As you say, the Bible is so important, because without it, our faith is ultimately futile. So many people fail to see that if you remove some of it, you make the rest obsolete, because to be divinely inspired, it must be perfect.

All scripture is inspired by God. We can't leave any out.
