A doer of the Word.

Are you a doer of the Word?

I ask this question because I think that for many, doing what the Word says is an optional extra. Yes, we like the words of the Bible, they are so beautiful. They might even give strong moral leading, but for many “doing” what they read is not for them.

It is made clear to us that the Bible is the Word of God (see 2 Tim 3:16-17, 2 Thess 2:13). These are not just words of wise men. The Bible is not just filled with “good ideas”. The Bible is God speaking to us. I sometimes wonder how people would react if there was a blinding flash of lighting, followed but a strong resonant voice from heaven, would people treat it with more respect.

James 1:22 says, “But prove yourselves doers of the word, and not merely hearers who delude themselves” (also read what follows James 1:22-25). So many people are hearers of the word but don’t do anything about it. They are hearers who delude themselves. They might fool themselves, they might even fool others, but I can assure you, they don’t fool God.

To be a “doer of the word” means that you take the Word of God from the Bible and apply it to your life. It means that things change. It means you follow the narrow way
that leads to life (Matt 7:13-14). It means that maybe people will mock you and deride your stand. But it means that you will be following God and you will have your reward (Rev 2:10).

So, I ask you again, Are you a doer of the Word.

I would love to hear your thoughts.

Keith
