Why do we need Jesus?

We are living in a society and at a time when many people fail to see that they have spiritual needs. We are so good at filling our physical needs that we forget there is more to us than what we can see. As a result of this people ask why they need Jesus? Perhaps you are one of these people.

Our need for Jesus is just as urgent today as it was two thousand years ago when He came to earth. As sophisticated as people are today, in real terms people have not changed at all. They still have the same needs and the reasons for Christ’s coming are the very same reasons why we need Him today!

The reason that Christ came to earth – the reason that we need Him today, can be summed up in one word; sin. The famous words found in John 3:16 read, “For God so love the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life.” Jesus came down from heaven, lived on earth, taught then died on the cross so that we might have eternal life. Without Jesus Christ we cannot hope to have eternal life!

In Romans 3:23 the apostle Paul tells us, “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God”. This is most important for us to recognise. This is not just talking about “bad” people. All have sinned! As a result of this we are told we fall short of the glory of God! In Isaiah 59:2 we are told that our sins have “…hidden His face…” from us! The consequences of sin are deadly. Romans 6:23 states, “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord”.

What we earn from the sins we commit is death – eternal death. Remember that this is taking to all people, for all have sinned! However, that is only one side of the equations. We are told that we have the free gift of God, eternal life, if we follow the teachings of Jesus.

Who needs Jesus? We all do! If you want to know more about the wonderful gift that God has offered us please feel free to contact me and I will be able to send you some more information on this important subject.
