Arusha

Tuesday 5th May
The Mennonite Guest house is an older building that was very comfortable. We would have liked to have spent more time exploring it, but we had to keep moving. Up at 4.30 a.m. in time to be ready for the taxi to take us to the airport. We had an 8 a.m. flight from Nairobi to Kilimanjaro International Airport. We made it through all the official business that one has to do at an airport and even had time for some breakfast (croissant and juice) before the plane left. It was just a short 50-minute flight passing Mt Kilimanjaro (the highest mountain in Africa) before arriving in Tanzania. We had to go through immigration and customs and this took a long time. In the end we were the last ones out of the airport!

It was wonderful to be met by two dear friends. Allen and Hossiana were there waiting for us (wondering if they had got the wrong time!) We had a wonderful reunion and I was very pleased to introduce Anne to them. We took time out at the airport to sit at an outdoor cafĂ© and have a cool drink and just catch up. It was great catching up on news – finding out how old friends were doing. Allen and Hossiana are very good people and Anne and I we so happy to be with them.

It was then a taxi ride to the Guest house where we are staying and then Allen and Hossiana left us to relax. Anne and I went for a walk, did some shopping at the local super market and then Anne had a nap. Dinner and the restaurant and then early to bed. We were two tired campers!
